Brain scanning may be used in security checks

Distinctive brain patterns could become the latest subject of biometric scanning after EU researchers successfully tested technology to verify *identities for security checks.

The experiments, which also examined the potential of heart rhythms to authenticate individuals, were conducted under an EU-funded inquiry into biometric systems that could be deployed at airports, borders and in sensitive locations to screen out terrorist suspects.

AMES, IOWA — Iowa State University researchers are putting flu vaccines into the genetic makeup of corn, which may someday allow pigs and humans to get a flu vaccination simply by eating corn or corn products.

"We're trying to figure out which genes from the swine influenza virus to incorporate into corn so those genes, when expressed, would produce protein," said Hank Harris, professor in animal science and one of the researchers on the project. "When the pig consumes that corn, it would serve as a vaccine."This collaborative effort project involves Mr. Harris and Brad Bosworth, an affiliate associate professor of animal science working with pigs, and Kan Wang, a professor in agronomy, who is developing the vaccine traits in the corn.

According to the researchers, the corn vaccine would also work in humans when they eat corn or even corn flakes, corn chips, tortillas or anything that contains corn, Mr. Harris said. The research is funded by a grant from Iowa State University's Plant Sciences Institute, and is their Biopharmaceuticals and Bioindustrials Research Initiative.

If the research goes well, the corn vaccine may be possible in five to seven years. In the meantime, the team is trying to expedite the process. "While we're waiting for Wang to produce the corn, we are starting initial experiments in mice to show that the vaccine might induce an immune response," Mr. Bosworth said.

Mr. Harris said the team still needs more answers. "The big question is whether or not these genes will work when given orally through corn," he added. "That is the thing we've still got to determine."

Stability and safety are several advantages to the corn vaccine. Once the corn with the vaccine is grown, it can be stored for long-term without losing its potency, researchers claim. If a swine flu virus breaks out, the corn could be shipped to the location to try to vaccinate animals and humans in the area quickly. Because corn grain is used as food and feed, there is no need for extensive vaccine purification, which can be an expensive process.

в пух и прах громко сказано - читал бегло, суть заключаеться в том, что несколько человек дают оценку религиозному отрывку, но порой сами противоречат друг другу при этом - то есть мы все хором утверждаем, что автор фильма не прав, но между собой мы тоже не можем найти общий язык, порой их так называемые факты не более чем домыслы ... так что весьма спорный вопрос что там разнесено! Во-первых где-то уже читал, что основной довод - разноситься только религиозная часть, а меня к примеру она меня мало волнует вообще ...

Есть сухие факты - да, все рилигии между собой в той или иной мере похожи, причем спорить бессмысленно, это признают даже высшие чины этих доктрин, у всех религий есть божественные создания обладающие неограниченными психофизическими возможностями, все религии в итоге прививают доброту, смирение и т.д.
Основная задача каждой религии это привить человеку моральные принципы, все религи с этим справляються ...

Продают не домик, а свой дом Жак Фреско, на своем сайте. Потому что проекту, как и любому другому, необходимо какое-то финансирование, то есть затраты на материал и т.д.
Даже с такой замечательной идеей, приходится прогибаться под систему.
Вот тут, я как-то создавал тему, про этот проект. Напрашиваются многие вопросы. К примеру если будет новая система существования людей - то кто будет у руля? Ведь кто-то обязательно должен быть, иначе люди как стадо баранов собьются с пути. Это доказано не одним тысячелетием.

Идея проекта похожа на идею коммунизма, где жить было хорошо и веселее, но человеческий фактор не был учтен, а именно жадность, алчность, эгоизм, властность и т.д.
Даже если проект развод с большой буквы, если взять идею, то она просто восхитительна. в проекте звучат правильные мысли - если не будет финансовой системы, то люди будут думать о развитии, о новых технологиях, а не о том где бы заработать или побольше украсть.
Просто не все умеют жить по совести. Увы.

Aristey, согласен на все 100, проект выглядит, как утопия и с первого взгляда поход на коммунизм! Но правда, что если все силы были бы брошены на развития технологий, развитие возможностей самого человека, а не на "максимизацию прибыли", то человечество добилось бы гораздо большего, смогли бы побороть бедность, голод, топливные кризисы, практически любые болезни, осваивание новых вершин науки и техники шло бы семимильными шагами, если бы массы людей, которые сейчас занимаються продажами, рекламами, раздутые штаты бюрократии и т.д. были заняты бы в освоении новых вершин развития человечества ...
